How to play

Moving around

Drag the map to look around. Pinch, use the mouse wheel, or tap + and − to zoom. Tap the little map in the corner to jump the camera somewhere fast. “Home” jumps to your Town Center; “Flag” jumps to the middle of the map. On a computer you can also use the arrow / WASD keys and edge scrolling.

Your people

Tap one of your soldiers or villagers to select them. Then tap the map where they should go. Tap an enemy to attack it. Tap “Attack-move” in the panel and then a place, and your soldier will fight enemies it meets on the way.

Groups of soldiers

To command many soldiers at once, drag a box around them: on a phone or tablet, tap the “Group” button at the side first, then drag on the map — that drag draws a box instead of moving the view, and the button turns itself off when the box is done. On a computer you can also hold Shift while you drag. Your troops inside the box become the group (a plain drag with no Group button and no Shift still just moves the view). Then ONE tap commands the whole group: tap the map and they move there together; tap an enemy and they attack-move to it, fighting enemies they meet on the way; tap your own boat and the foot warriors in the group go and board it. The panel under the map shows the group — how many of each kind — with buttons for everyone’s stance, Attack-move (tap it, then tap the place), Shield Wall for the nations that can form one, and Clear selection to let go of the group.

Building

Buildings are built by your villagers, just like the offline game. Select a villager (or a group with villagers in it), tap “Build…” in their panel, pick a building, then tap the map to place it. The villagers you selected walk over and build it — it starts as a scaffolded foundation and does nothing until it is finished, and more builders make it go up faster. You can also select a villager and tap one of your unfinished buildings to send them to help build it, or tap one of your damaged buildings to send them to repair it. Training works the same way: go to the building itself. Tap your Town Center to train villagers, the Barracks for soldiers, the Archery Range for archers, the Stable for knights, the Siege Workshop for rams and catapults, the Stone Keep for a spy, and the Dock for boats. Training takes time — up to 5 can wait in a building's queue, and cancelling one refunds its cost in full.

Food, wood, gold and stone

Trees give wood, grey rocks give stone, gold rocks give gold, and berry bushes give food. Select a villager, then tap one of those to start gathering. Villagers carry loads back to your Town Center by themselves. Farms give endless food, and a villager next to blue channel water can fish. Select a villager and tap an animal to hunt it — deer, sheep, rabbits and pheasants run away, but a boar fights back.

Living wildlife: animals wander and graze near their home, and a killed animal's carcass rots — butcher it in time. A sheep that stands close to your villager will follow them; walk it to your Town Center and it will pen there until you butcher it. Wolves, bears, lions and tigers roam the wilds and hunt lone villagers and prey animals — they never hunt inside a Town Center's home circle. Villagers can spear a predator with a hunt order, and soldiers on Guard or Aggressive stance fight back when one bites. Fish stocks that are fished out are gone; new shoals appear near old ones and by the shore over time.

Fighting

Barbarian camps guard treasure chests. The treasure is yours only when all the camp's guards are dead AND its chest is broken — finish both halves, in either order. Stances tell a soldier how to behave: Passive stands still, Guard stays near its spot and fights nearby enemies, Aggressive hunts enemies a little further away.

Boats and bridges

The blue lines on the map are channels — water roads. Build a Dock, then tap the Dock itself and pick a boat: it takes time to build, and launches on the water beside the Dock when it is ready. Select the boat and tap a channel tile to sail. Select foot warriors and tap the boat to board — they walk to the boat and climb aboard by themselves; “Unload” puts them back on shore. A bridge lets your people walk across a channel, boats sail underneath it, and up to 2 of your archers can stand on your bridge and shoot: select an archer, then tap your bridge.

The sea

The deep-blue water along one edge of the map (and in the lakes) is open water. Every boat can sail it, and small boats — canoes, fishing boats and longships — can sail both the open water and the channels. Pale fish marks are fish shoals: build a Fishing Boat at your Dock, select it and tap a shoal, and it will fish there, sail its catch back to your Dock when full, and return by itself. A War Galley is a fighting ship that shoots enemy boats and shore targets by itself — but it is too big for the channels and sails open water only. Sinking an enemy boat scores naval points.

The middle flag

In the middle of the map is a gold-outlined plot. Select a villager, use their “Build…” list to place your flag there, and let them build it — the shield and the gold only start once the flag is finished. While it stands, your home is protected by a shield and you gain a little gold every hour. If your flag is destroyed, both stop at once.

Your shield

When your shield is on, nobody can attack your home area — a circle 15 tiles wide around your Town Center. You get a shield while you hold the middle flag, and for a while after someone attacks you at home, so your town cannot be wiped out while you sleep.

Fog of war

The map starts black. You can only see the land around your own soldiers, buildings and boats — send a fast scout out to uncover more. Land you have seen stays on your map forever. Enemy buildings you have seen stay drawn as you last saw them, even after your scout leaves — but enemy soldiers, boats and animals only show while one of yours can see them right now, and a building's picture only updates when you look at it again. If your soldiers are hit by someone you cannot see, you will know they are hurt, but not who did it.

Ages and research

Tap your Town Center to research. Reaching the Feudal Age unlocks archers, towers and more; the Castle Age unlocks knights and keeps. Wheelbarrow and Hand Cart let villagers carry more.

The Market

From the Feudal Age you can build a Market (150 wood + 50 stone). Tap your Market to trade: you buy and sell food, wood and stone in lots of 100, and gold is the money. Buying a lot costs 80 gold (100 for stone); selling a lot pays 50 gold (70 for stone). There is no extra fee — buying high and selling low is simply how the Market makes its cut, so a buy-then-sell round trip always loses 30 gold. Prices never change.

Tribute — gifts to friends

In the Menu, under “People”, you can send any player a gift of food, wood, gold or stone. What you send is exactly what they get — nothing is lost on the way, and gifts do not change anyone's score. You can even send a gift to a friend who is not online; it waits in their stores until they return.

Alliances

Also under “People”: propose an alliance, and it only begins when the other player accepts (proposing back counts as accepting). While you are allied, neither of you can attack the other in any way — not by hand, not with attack-move, not with towers or ships — and each of you can see everything the other's soldiers, buildings and boats can see: their troops, and the enemies near them. The land you have explored stays your own, and you do NOT share resources, scores, shields or the flag. Either side can break an alliance at any time, with no warning needed — and after a break, the two of you cannot re-ally for 5 minutes.

Chat

Tap “Chat” at the side of the map to talk to everyone in the world. A red badge on the button tells you messages arrived while the chat was closed. Messages are up to 200 letters, one every couple of seconds, and they are not saved — a fresh login starts with an empty chat.

Heroes

From the Feudal Age, your Town Center can train one of your nation's heroes for 200 food + 150 gold. The hero joins the Town Center's training queue and takes a little while to arrive. Only one hero can be alive (or training) at a time. A hero is a very tough soldier with an aura that strengthens nearby troops and a special ability — select the hero and tap “Use hero ability”. If your hero falls, you can train a hero again. Killing an enemy hero scores 100 season points.

Seasons

The world runs in seasons of 7 days. When a season ends, the scores are final, a winner is named, and a fresh world begins.
